Mumbai’s monorail chaos continues: Another snag hits today, here’s what’s wrong with the ambitious project?

Speaking with Ward Assembly Member Rajesh Bhojane called the Maharashtra government to solve the issue that has repeatedly repeatedly.
“The train to Wadala stopped. Passengers were transferred to the train from Chembur. The fire department came and started operations. Monoraray officials call on this recurrent problem.” He said.
Authorities, affected passengers were transferred to another train from Chembur and taken safely to the points of arrival, he said.
Monoraray didn’t get into trouble for the first time. Last month, a train stopped between Mysore Colony and Bhakti park stations during heavy rainfall. A front probe revealed that excessive crowds pushed the total train weight to 109 metric tons and exceeded the designed capacity of 104 metric tons. The overload broke the mechanical contact between the electric rail and the existing collector, cut the electricity and stopped the train.
Mumbai Monoraray officials later described the problem of Monday as a “small power supply problem”. However, frequent faults have increased concerns about the reliability of the system.
Joyride from the road
Mumbai’s Monoraray was launched to connect to Chembur in 2014 and eventually to Jacob Circle, and fought delays, technical problems and low riding. Monoraray aimed to alleviate congestion, but it was called an overwhelming experiment. The first stage started from Chembur to Wadala after six years of delays in February 2014 and the full road to Jacob Circle was completed in 2019. In 2017, two empty coaches fire in the early hours of the morning, but the injury was not reported. At the opening of Phase II in March 2019, Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis estimated the riding of 1 Lakh per day. However, real riding, according to a report dated 2024, only 18,000 a day. India Times.
On September 17, 2024, it was only two rakes operational instead of the necessary six or seven, which caused a train frequencies as low as one hour. A station official showed frequent faults as an important reason during the monsoon.
Monoraray’s weak frequency-yielding 15-minute intervals-in addition, contributes to low riding. Currently, 142 services operate on weekdays and 64 markets and holidays. Adding ten new Monoraray Trains can potentially upgrade more than 250 trips.
It had to be delivered to the subway, but that did not happen.
Monoraray stations are far from populated areas that make service less attractive for vehicles.
