Launches of affordable homes plunge to 1/3rd of sales in Jan-Jun across top 8 cities: Report

New Delhi, August 29 (PTI) new affordable home supply with each cost LaAccording to the NarenCo-Knight Frank, 50 lakh in the first half of 2025 fell to almost one-third of low-cost housing sales in eight big cities.
At a conference held on Friday, Real Estate Industry body NarenCo and Real Estate Consultant Knight Frank India, India’s affordable housing sector, which draws attention to critical supply difficulties in the ‘affordable housing: supply side reforms through the struggle of urban housing deficit’ report published.
In the report, the ratio of the launch of affordable houses to the sale of housing units La50 Lakh in the top 8 cities, 1.05 in 2025 (until June), 1.05 in 2019 and 1.30 in 2020.
These eight cities Bengaluru, Delhi-Ncr, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Calcutta, Haydarabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad.
NarenCO President G Hari Babu said that the report underlined the scale of India’s affordable housing struggle – 9.4 million units that can rise to 30 million units by 2030.
“As the demand continues to grow, the new supply in this segment is a matter of concern. It expands the limited private investment gap further.”
He stressed that there is a need for the brave supply -side reforms that open the PSU land for the housing, rationalization of FSI norms and subsidized construction financing.
“Although the policy support on the request side is worth praising, there is an urgent need to address the obstacles of the supply side,” President and General Manager Knight Frank India, Shishir Baijal. He said.
He said that there is a need to encourage private sector participation in the affordable housing segment.
