Lawmakers Press FDA to Target Knockoff Weight-Loss Drugs

(Bloomberg) -Düzines MPs calls US health regulators to demolish the exploding market for weight loss drugs due to concerns about potential security risks.
On Friday, a group of more than 80 deputies deputies asked the US Food and Pharmaceutical Administration to stop the false and imitating versions of GLP-1 drugs such as Wegovy and Zepbound, a problem that arose last year.
In a letter to the FDA commissioner Marty Makary, they wrote, “We are concerned about the latest reports that have shown an increase in illegal and false anti-celestial drugs,” he wrote. “Undoubtedly, illegal counterfeit drugs pose an increasing risk for patient safety with fatal consequences.”
Representatives of North Carolina, Richard Hudson and New Jersey, led by Herb Conaway, the group asked the agency to increase the application of illegally imported weight loss drugs. They suggested to give warning letters and better monitor the unification pharmacies selling non -compatible online retailers and drugs.
MPs also said that the FDA should work with US customs and border patrol agents to prevent Chinese organizations from sending insecure weight loss drugs to the USA. Considering the “urgency ın of the situation, they requested an update about the FDA’s efforts until July 30th.
FDA spokesman said that he would work with the US Health and Human Services Department to give a “complete and comprehensive an answer to the problems arising from the agency’s deputies.
“Any effort to weaken the supply of safe drugs of the United States is a matter that the FDA takes seriously,” he said. “And we are very determined to strengthen the supervision of imported products in US entrance ports.”
In recent years, the popularity of GLP-1 drugs has led to the explosion of imitators and fraudsters made by companies wishing to benefit from swallowing.
State licensed pharmacies were allowed to make copies of the drugs temporarily during a supply shortage, but Novo Nordisk A/S and Eli Lilly & Co. This is no longer allowed after increasing production. Nevertheless, some pharmacies refused to reduce their operations, while others tended to sell drugs at lower doses to prevent regulatory examination.
Fake drugs are made by unregistered organizations using materials that are typically illegally imported. Until April, it continues to be situations in which false Özempic pens enter the supply chain that were not secretly identified. Some patients also buy drugs directly from online vendors to make drugs at home.
In both cases, drugs do not pass the same meticulous approval process as branded drugs made by Novo and Lilly. Experts are concerned that the lack of surveillance puts patients at risk. The FDA said potentially aware of hospitalization, which is connected to imitating drugs, but negative events were probably not reported.
HIMS & HERS HEALTH INC. “We support the call of fake and illegal weight loss drugs sold on fake and illegal drugs,” he said. “We appreciate that the legitimate compound drugs distributed by the states organized by the state are not fake. Patient safety should always come before.”
Novo and Lilly encouraged consumers to use compounds and counterfeit products, including working with border representatives to file a lawsuit with consumers and imitating versions and to seize illegal posts. Under the Biden administration, companies have repeatedly called on the FDA to activate, but even if the best drug official has accepted security concerns in the public, consumer warnings often limited the action of regulating warnings.
Under the Trump administration, HHS focuses more on other issues such as prohibiting food dyes and examining vaccine programs.
Meanwhile, deputies increase their calls for action. The state lawyers and other MPs sent letters to the FDA and Federal Trade Commission with more examination around the treatments around the treatments.
