While Dhurandhar’s trailer claims that the film is “inspired by incredible true events”, people have started finding out how the Aditya Dhar-directed action thriller connects to real-life events. Netizens soon learned that R. Madhavan’s Ajay Sanyal, Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait, Sanjay Dutt’s SP Chaudhary Aslam, Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal ISI are based on real-life figures Ajit Doval, Rehman Dakait, Chaudhry Aslam Khan and Ilyas Kashmiri respectively. However, it left many people wondering who was the inspiration behind Ranveer Singh’s character.

Ranveer’s character name has not been revealed in the trailer. His character was believed to be based on Major Mohit Sharma, who secretly went to Pakistan and infiltrated Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s as Iftikhar Bhatt. When Mohit’s brother Madhur Sharma asked X this question, Aditya Dhar clarified that Dhurandhar was not based on Major Mohit.

Sharing an NDTV report stating that Ranveer is playing Major Mohit, his brother Madhur wrote: “Respected @ndtv, A credible media house is expected to report facts and not just “speculations”. People are having a field day in addition to this. Parents are waiting for a single confirmation whether this is related to their son or not. @AdityaDharFilms I don’t think it’s Mohit, are you?”

The Uri director replied to him: “Hello sir – our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of the brave-hearted Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official statement. I assure you that if we make a biopic on Mohit sir in future, we will do it with full consent and in full consultation with the family and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy he left to all of us. Jai Hind.”

Major Mohit Sharma was posthumously honored with India’s highest peacetime military award, the Ashoka Chakra, for sacrificing his life during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district in 2009. Dhurandhar releases in cinemas worldwide on December 5.
