Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu reviewed the preparation of estimates for the constituency canal works, including removal of weeds, water hyacinth and mud, in a video conference with Chief Engineers on Friday.

Mr. Ramanaidu expressed his displeasure over the fact that the estimates were not prepared by March 25 despite orders to submit them within the given time frame.

Stating that weeds should be cleared and dust removed by May, the Minister reminded that in the previous administration, permits were given until June, when the Kharif season started.

As a result, the water had to be drained before repair and maintenance work could be completed. He emphasized that estimates should be made in advance, immediate approval should be obtained from the Finance Department and all work should be completed before the start of the irrigation season.

The Minister emphasized that after the TDP-led coalition took control, war-based funds were given to prioritize canal maintenance works, and stated that the government was trying to provide irrigation water to every decare area.
