Liverpool city centre LIVE: Police cordon off multiple streets – Cavern Quarter sealed off | UK | News

Several streets were cordoned off in Liverpool city center as police descended on the Cavern Quarter. There are currently cordons in place in Button Street, Mathew Street, Victoria Street and parts of Whitechapel. Large parts of the Cavern Quarter were sealed off by police officers on Monday 6 April, with police tape extending as far as Whitechapel and the HSBC bank.
According to Liverpool Echo, garbage collectors working in the city center were removed from the area by officers guarding the cordon. Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest of a man following a fight near Clayton Square at around 4.45am in which one man allegedly threatened another with a firearm. A 37-year-old man is being held on suspicion of possessing an unlicensed firearm. Police said: “There is no suggestion that a firearm was used and no injuries were reported.” The man is currently in custody and the ongoing investigation has not found any firearms so far.
