Mumbai, Thane and Pune brace for sudden weather change as IMD issues yellow alert for north Maharashtra. Check full forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow now forecast warning, saying light rain is likely to fall in Mumbai and Thane in the next three hours, Mid Day reported. According to IMD, Mumbai is expected to record a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The warning was issued at 7 am today and the IMD warned citizens to take necessary precautions as intermittent rains may affect some parts of the region in the morning hours. In Pune, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with the highest temperature being 29.2°C and the lowest being 18.7°C. Pune has been witnessing a steady increase in both minimum and maximum temperatures for the last few days.

Pune’s day temperature crossed the 30 degree Celsius mark on Monday. While Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius, Lohgaon touched 32.5 degrees Celsius. According to weather officials, an approaching Western disturbance is affecting the weather in north and central India. The system combined with easterly winds is expected to increase cloud cover over several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune.

Yellow alert for Maharashtra

IMD has issued a yellow alert in the middle of winter, indicating signs of unseasonal rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra. In Dhule, the region may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places, light rains and strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, IMD said. Apart from Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Sambhajinagar, Jalna and Parbhani are also under yellow alert today.

According to IMD, light rains along with thunderstorms are highly likely to occur in North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions. The meteorological department said it is very likely that partly cloudy weather conditions will prevail in the Konkan-Goa regions of Southern Madhya Maharashtra.

Mumbai, Thane AQI

According to the Sameer app, Mumbai’s air quality index (AQI) stands at 121, which falls in the medium category and can cause respiratory discomfort in people with lung ailments, asthma and heart ailments. Meanwhile, Thane and Kalyan each recorded an AQI of 124, placing air quality in the medium category, while Navi Mumbai reported a satisfactory AQI of 94; This may cause mild respiratory discomfort for sensitive individuals.
