Logic may not be the right tool to examine faith and belief systems, says Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 said that courts cannot eviscerate religion in the name of reform and that logic may not be the right tool to examine faith and belief systems.

The remarks by the nine-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant came on the second day of hearing a reference triggered by a 2018 judgment upholding the right of menstruating women to enter and worship at the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.
