Lokesh Vows To Make AP Universities World-class

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Education and IT Minister N. Lokesh called for transforming state universities into world-class institutions and urged vice-chancellors to take the lead in implementing reforms and promoting innovation.

Addressing the vice-chancellors of all state universities on Monday, Lokesh assured Governor and Chancellor S. Abdul Nazeer that the government will provide full support to raise academic standards while also preserving the autonomy of universities to manage themselves and identify talent.

The Minister emphasized that universities play an important role in building a knowledge-based society and called on venture capitalists to act as leaders and ambassadors of change. He identified five key areas to strengthen higher education in the state.

First, it emphasized the need to bridge the gap between teaching and market needs by encouraging curriculum updates to meet international standards. He pointed out that degrees that lack relevance and employability lose credibility in both local and global job markets.

Secondly, Lokesh highlighted improving employment opportunities through internships, apprenticeships, placements and stronger industry-university linkages. Third, he called for supporting research, innovation and enterprise, which are still weak in many institutions. Fourth, he encouraged universities to prioritize academic quality over administrative issues, devoting more time and resources to teaching excellence.

Finally, he stated that students need appropriate guidance, welfare and psychological support to succeed academically.

He highlighted the development of multi-disciplinary education, curriculum review and skill development programs to make degrees globally competitive. He emphasized that connecting universities with industries and aligning curricula with market needs is necessary to create graduates equipped for both employment and entrepreneurship.

Lokesh’s call reflects an effort to modernize Andhra Pradesh’s higher education sector and ensure its universities gain international recognition while tackling local and global challenges.
