London Together Alliance march: Thousands of anti far-right protesters descend on capital

UK sees ‘unprecedented growth’ in far-right support, organizer says

Speaking ahead of a rally against the far-right in central London on Saturday, Sabby Dhalu, joint secretary of the Together Coalition and co-convener of Stand Up to Racism, said the UK had seen “unprecedented growth” in support for far-right organisations.

He said: “The Unite the Kingdom demonstration in September 2025, led by Tommy Robinson, was the largest far-right mobilization in British history.

“We believe that the majority of British people stand against the hatred, divisiveness and racism promoted at that demonstration and by such organisations, and that it is time to take action.”

Asked if she was concerned about potential counter-protests and disorder, Ms Dhalu said: “We are not worried about anything like that today. We don’t have any intelligence that anything like that is being planned.”

“We believe that the scale of our mobilization here today has intimidated the far right, and I think they feel like they don’t have enough confidence to stand against us because they know we’re going to be out in large numbers.”

Ms Dhalu added that protesters had “no reason” not to comply with the conditions set by the Metropolitan Police and that it would be a “peaceful” demonstration.

Police prepare for unrest

Police are bracing for unrest as thousands of protesters prepare to descend on London.

Scotland Yard said there would be a significant police presence in the capital on Saturday, when two major marches will converge on Westminster.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jon Savell, who is in charge of this weekend’s police operation in London, said: “This will be a busy weekend for our officers but we have detailed plans to ensure any groups protesting this weekend can do so legally and without causing serious disruption to other Londoners, businesses or visitors.”

What are the protests going on in the capital today?

A march followed by speeches and musical performances is being organized by the Together Alliance and is said to have support from celebrities including comedian Sir Lenny Henry and singer Paloma Faith, although neither are expected to be there.

Participants will march down Park Lane at 1pm and finish in Whitehall. There will also be a music event in Trafalgar Square, featuring artists including former Little Mix singer Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

A separate march, organized by the Palestine Coalition, will form at the southern end of Exhibition Road from midday, heading towards Hyde Park Corner, where demonstrators will turn onto Piccadilly and join Alliance Together’s route before groups prepare for a rally in Whitehall.

Those gathered on the Whitehall stage will be shown a video message from London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, and Green Party leader Zack Polanski is expected to make a speech.

Mr. Polanski is expected to say: “Our plan is simple… never back down in the face of hate when they attack immigrants, when they spew hatred against our trans brothers and sisters, when they blame Muslims for our country’s problems.”

Public order conditions restrict where and when groups can gather, and a joint rally is prohibited from continuing after 5pm.
