London Tube strike: Travel chaos looms as RMT to hold five days of strikes | UK | News

London underground workers will organize a series of strikes next month in a dispute on payment and conditions. Railway, Maritime and Transportation Association (RMT) said that its members on the tube will take industrial action for seven days at different times from 5 September.

The union claimed that the management seriously refused to seriously evaluate the demands of a decrease in wage, fatigue management, shift models and a decrease in working week. In a separate dispute on wages and conditions, RMT members on London’s Docklands Light Railway will also be striking per week from 7 September.

RMT Secretary General Eddie DEMPSEY said: ız Our members do a great job to move our capital and process exhausting shift patterns to ensure that the Londons reach their places at any time of the day.

“They are not after the ransom of a king, but the rotations of fatigue and excessive shifts are serious issues that affect the health and prosperity of our members – not all of them have been adequately dealt with for years by the LU administration.

“When it is combined with the fact that there were extraordinary problems around the personnel travel arrangements, an atmosphere of insecurity was created in which our members felt that no one was listening to them.

“RMT will continue to participate in the LU administration in order to seek a review to reach a negotiated solution.”
