Luckily the travel guide company helped with this decision. Lonely Planet revealed the best places to visit next year. For those not too keen on exploring the roads less traveled, there are also plenty of already popular destinations on the list; These will tick off the must-sees on your bucket list, including destinations in Europe and South America.

The first city on the list is Quetzaltenango, Guatemala’s second largest city and known locally as Xela (pronounced “she-la”).

Famous for its rich Mayan heritage, colonial architecture, cooler climate due to high altitude, and nearby volcanoes and hot springs, it’s a popular spot for Spanish learners, hikers, and those looking for a less touristy, authentic Guatemalan experience with beautiful parks, markets, and neoclassical buildings.

Its capital, Helsinki, sits on a peninsula and is home to the 18th-century sea fortress Suomenlinna.
