A teenage girl has been rescued after being ‘randomly’ snatched off the street in a terrifying ordeal. The shocking incident took place in Bowdon, Altrincham, and resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old man.
The girl reported being threatened with a knife throughout the seven-hour nightmare. The 15-year-old was abducted on 18 May and found in the car park of a hotel in Knutsford, Cheshire, in the early hours of 19 May.
It is understood the victim was taken into a vehicle while walking alone in Bradgate Road, Bowdon, at around 6.45pm. He was reported missing around 9pm, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Cheshire police found the vehicle in the car park of Cottons Hotel and Spa in the early hours of the morning.
The teenager was found inside and a man was detained at the scene.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers working with Cheshire Police arrested a man on suspicion of abduction after a young girl was reported missing in Altrincham on Monday 18 May.
“A 56-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of May 19 and is being detained for questioning. The girl and her family are being supported by specialist police officers.
“There is no wider risk to the public. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.”
Manchester Police confirmed the man arrested was white. Detectives were given additional time to keep the suspect in custody for further questioning.
The incident is believed to be random and it is understood the teenager had no previous contact with the suspect.
