Lost sense of nationalism: Ramchander Rao accuses Congress

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao on Wednesday criticized the Indian Youth Congress for defending its “shirtless” protests at the AI Impact Summit and alleged that the Congress has “lost its sense of nationalism”.

He also disputed claims that the demonstration was aimed at opposing the proposed India-US interim trade deal. According to Rao, the protest and the reasons that followed do not reflect negatively on the Indian National Congress. He added that while party members gave priority to Rahul Gandhi, most Indians gave priority to the nation and described the Youth Congress’ defense of the protest as an attempt to rationalize inappropriate behaviour. “The statements of the Youth Congress leaders who protested during the Artificial Intelligence summit, after they were released, are an even greater ungratefulness to the country.

They don’t regret what they did. They embarrassed India in front of the international community during the protest at the International Summit. Now they say they are protesting against the India-USA agreement… The Congress party has lost its sense of nationalism… For them, Rahul Gandhi may be everything, but for Indians, their country comes first… The Youth Congress is trying to justify what they have done,” said Ramchander Rao.

Meanwhile, Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib arrived at the party headquarters on Tuesday after being released from jail. He stated that Congress and IYC workers are fighting against the India-US trade deal, which is against the country’s farmers. Chib added that the Congress will continue to fight in the Lok Sabha under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

Chib told ANI, “The protesting Congress members and Youth Congress members are fighting against this. This agreement of the US is being made against the farmers of the country. We will continue this struggle against it. The Congress party and the Youth Congress will continue this struggle under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi because this agreement is harming the farmers of the country… That is why we are protesting.”

The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed the Sessions Court’s order suspending the bail granted to Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib. The high court also issued a notice to the Delhi police on IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib’s petition challenging the bail order. This paved the way for Uday Bhanu Chib to leave judicial custody on the bail granted to him.

Chib was granted bail by the Magistrate’s Court in the morning and subsequently remanded by the sessions court on the evening of 28 February. Justice Saurabh Banerjee issued the notice to Delhi Police and sought its response. Meanwhile, the decision to postpone bail was postponed by the Supreme Court. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, Advocates Virendra Vashist, Suleman Mohammad and Roopesh Singh Bhadauria were present on behalf of Uday Bhanu Chib during the hearing before the Supreme Court.
