Footage shows the terrifying moment a cargo plane exploded as it crashed near Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville.
The Louisville Metro Police Department reported that there were no injuries as emergency services continued to respond.
They said in a statement: “LMPD and multiple other agencies are responding to reports of a plane crash near Fern Valley and Grade Lane. The at-grade lane between Stooges and Crittenden will be closed indefinitely. Injuries have been reported.”
Police also told locals to “stay away” and warned them to take shelter.
Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the plane involved in the crash was UPS Flight 2976 bound for Honolulu.
The statement included the following statements: “The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (TSB) will investigate the matter.
“NTSB will manage the investigation and provide any updates. This information is preliminary and subject to change.”
UPS said in a statement: “This evening at approximately 5:20 PM, UPS Flight 2976 from Louisville, KY to Honolulu, an MD-11 with three crew members on board, was involved in a crash in Louisville. We have not confirmed any injuries/casualties at this time.
“UPS will release more facts as they become available, but the National Transportation Safety Board is responsible for the investigation and will be the primary source of information regarding the official investigation.”
Local media shared images from the accident scene showing a long trail of flames as firefighters attempted to extinguish the blaze.
Videos shared on the internet also showed the moment when the buildings burst into flames due to the impact of the accident.
According to reports, the plane had at least 25,000 gallons of jet fuel on board at takeoff.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said: “We are aware of a reported plane crash near Louisville International Airport, Kentucky.
“First responders are on scene and we will share more information as possible. Please pray for the pilots, crew, and everyone affected. We will share more soon.”
