Following a communication from oil marketing companies to hotels in Coimbatore on Monday, March 9, 2026, that the supply of LPG cylinders would be affected due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict, hotels in the region decided to reduce their service times and menus.

Sree Annapoorna Sree Gowrishankar Group issued a statement on Monday night informing customers that it will limit its menu to essential items and the availability of some items will be limited to certain times of the day.

KA Ramaswamy, president of Coimbatore District Hoteliers Association, said that oil marketing companies have stopped supply of commercial LPG cylinders from Tuesday, March 10. “We are making do with the rolls we have. We have reduced Chinese items on live counters, removed parottas from the menu and restricted dosa and puri items to peak hours,” he said.

The 262 hotels that are members of the association will be able to manage for a few days and then start to close. “There are thousands of small hotels in the district. No one operating within the city limits uses firewood due to inspections and safety norms. They will be the worst affected,” he said.

However, the general manager of a large restaurant said that star hotels have invested in electrically powered equipment, and the use of LPG cylinders is minimal in such places. “We will be relatively less affected by the ongoing cylinder problem,” he said.
