Christian Bale finally reaches breaking point: Why the star’s six-hour makeup sessions for The Bride! left him ‘screaming like crazy’ despite years of pushing his body to the limit for roles

She is famous for doing anything to embody her character, often going on dangerous diets and exercise routines for the sake of her profession.

But Christian Bale revealed it was his transformation for his latest role in The Bride! This was the most challenging, although it required no effort from him.

Christian, 52, plays Frankenstein’s monster in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new film, which tells the story of the creation of the monster’s ‘bride’, played by Jessie Buckley.

To get into character, Christian would have to spend six hours every day applying makeup; Sitting still for so long almost drove him ‘crazy’.

She found it so challenging to stay still that she had to ‘scream like crazy every day’ on set, explaining: ‘I just [release the] despair, all that restraint you have to display when you sit still for that long.

‘I didn’t want to do this on my way to work because I thought I might cause an accident. And I didn’t want to do it alone because I thought everyone would think I was crazy.’

While long make-up sessions can be tiring for many people, it was interesting how challenging Christian found them, given his history of pushing his limits for film roles.
