Princess Catherine reportedly found Meghan Markle “abrasive” and always knew the Sussexes would “part ways” with the Firm, a new book has revealed. While their fractured relationship deepened following the Sussex couple’s decision to step back from royal life in 2020, Catherine and Meghan are thought to have not been on good terms for several years.
According to an excerpt from his new book titled William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside StoryScheduled to be released later this month Daily Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell MyersIt revealed Catherine’s true feelings about Meghan. Mr Myers wrote: “Catherine, long the voice of reason in the brothers’ previous quarrels, decided she could do no more to bring them together.
“At first she thought William and Harry’s fights were due to immaturity or stubbornness on both sides, but Harry and Meghan’s attitude towards the palace staff she and William cared about led the couple down an entirely different path. Things were undeniably different following Harry and Meghan’s wedding. William and Catherine felt the Sussex couple had ‘an agenda’.”

Mr Myers continues: “They certainly thought the Sussexes’ behavior was motivated by something more than just being difficult.”
The source shared by Mr Myers added: “The atmosphere between them was quite toxic. Meghan was being optimistic, while Kate found him abrasive. She saw the inevitability of parting ways, but perhaps not to the extent of what eventually happened.”
Meghan started dating Prince Harry in 2016, but it wasn’t long before he popped the question in 2017. The popular couple got married a year later. During Harry and Meghan’s engagement interview in 2017, Meghan described Meghan’s first meeting with the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Harry told Mishal Hussein: “It was exciting so I – you know I had been seeing him for a while but I literally didn’t tell anyone.

“And then William was very keen to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know, as neighbors we were able to do that a few times – I mean, a lot of times now and Catherine was absolutely…” To which Meghan commented: “Amazing.”
A few years later, in 2022, Meghan talked about her first meeting with William and Kate, saying: “When Will and Kate came and I met him for the first time, they came to dinner, I remember I was wearing ripped jeans and was barefoot.
“I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realize it was really shocking for a lot of British people. “I think I started to realize very quickly that the formality on the outside was reflected on the inside.
“There’s a forward-looking way of being, and then you close the door and say, ‘You can relax now,’ but this formality continues on both sides. That was surprising to me.”
