YouTuber charged after filming Dezi Freeman’s hideout

A YouTuber will face charges of trespassing after filming the secret hideout of double cop killer Dezi Freeman and posting videos online exploring his makeshift rural campsite.

Police on Sunday confirmed detectives had charged a 43-year-old man with trespassing at a property on Murray River Road in Thologolong on April 16.

“The Yea man was charged on summons with one count of trespassing,” Victoria Police said in a statement. he said.

He will appear in Wodonga Magistrates Court on October 13.

The man took to his YouTube account on Sunday morning and said he had surrendered to police.

“I am officially linked to the Dezi Freeman case,” he told his followers in a video.

“I’ve now been formally charged; it’s currently in the magistrates’ court and I’ll be going there at the end of the year.”

He said he expected to be fined for the alleged crime.

“If they wanted to charge me further they could have done whatever they could but they didn’t so yeah I imagine I’ll just get a fine for that,” the man said.

Freeman, 56, triggered one of Australia’s biggest manhunts after killing Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart and Detective Lead Senior Constable Neal Thompson at his home at Porepunkah in Victoria’s High Country in August 2025.

He evaded capture until he was tracked by specialist police to a Thologolong property near Walwa on the Victoria-NSW border in March, where he was shot dead.

Video posted by a YouTuber of Freeman’s makeshift campsite showed items scattered everywhere, including overturned camp chairs, kitchen utensils on tables and an overturned canister with multiple bullet holes.

Two people were approached about helping the fugitive; among them was a 64-year-old Lucyvale resident who was arrested in mid-June and questioned before being released pending further investigation.

A Victorian coroner is investigating the deaths of the two police officers and Freeman and separate inquests will be held.
