M4 traffic LIVE: Chaos as major motorway closed in both directions | UK | News

The M4 in Berkshire remained closed in both directions between J10 (A329M/Wokingham) and J11 (Reading) for emergency works on Wednesday evening. National Highways said the work was being carried out by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) after a nearby powerline pole was damaged by a falling tree.
The organization said: “Safety is our top priority. We closed the road due to the potential risk to the structure in high winds and the impact road users on the M4 may have if the situation worsens. We are working closely with SSEN Distribution, who are fixing the damaged pylon and carrying out complex repairs.” He added that there is no specific timeline for when the road will reopen, but “we expect the road to remain closed for a significant period of time while repairs continue.”
