Dozens of motorists reported being caught up in traffic on the M6 ​​this afternoon as thousands of people headed to Wembley for the Manchester City vs Arsenal match kicking off at 4.30pm.

National Highways has confirmed the temporary road closures and normal conditions are not expected to resume until 1.30pm.

One driver wrote to X: “The whole road was motionless.”

Another added: “Don’t travel on the M6 ​​toll. It’s closed due to a massive fire, leaving most of us stranded.”
