Machete attack leaves two teenagers injured in Birmingham

Two boys have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a machete attack outside a shop in south Birmingham on Saturday night.

Two boys, aged 15 and 14, were taken to hospital with injuries after being attacked outside a shop on Stratford Road, Shirley, at around 9pm on Saturday evening. One of the children has life-changing injuries. Both remain in hospital for treatment.

Another 15-year-old was also attacked after being punched but did not go to hospital.

West Midlands Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder and he was later released on bail pending further investigation. On Sunday, a 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Following the initial arrest, police warned they believed the attack was targeted and announced they would deploy extra police in the area over the weekend to reassure the community.

According to the information obtained, the incident occurred outside Boss Mart 3. BirminghamLive, spoke to shop owner Maan Al Naif. The owner said he locked the door to prevent anyone else from getting hurt and later saw two young people injured outside the store.

A police spokesman said on Monday: “We have arrested a teenage boy after three more people were attacked in Shirley.

“We were called to Stratford Road in Shirley at around 9pm last night. Two boys, aged 15 and 14, were taken to hospital with injuries we believe were caused by a machete.

“The injuries are not life-threatening, but both of them need to stay in hospital for treatment.

“Another 15-year-old young man was also attacked after being punched, but did not go to the hospital,” the statement said. “We arrested a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of intentional injury. He remains in custody while our investigations continue.

“We understand the concern in the community following this serious incident. We will be deploying additional officers to reassure the area today and over the coming days.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we would appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information such as dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/140175/26.
