Macron reappoints Lecornu as French PM after days of turmoil

President Emmanuel Macron called for Sébastien Lecornu to return as French prime minister just four days after leaving office, sparking a week of intense drama and political turmoil.
Macron made the announcement late Friday, hours after gathering all the main parties except the far-right and far-left leaders at the Élysée Palace.
Lecornu’s return came as a surprise because just two days ago he had said that he was “not pursuing work” and that his “duty was over”.
It’s not even clear that he can form a government, but he will have to act quickly. The new prime minister has a deadline of next Monday to present next year’s budget to parliament.
