Madras HC Upholds ‘A’ Certification For ‘Coolie’

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Madras rejected a petition opened by Sun Pictures, the producers of Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest film, and challenged the ‘A’ certificate published by the Central Film Certificate Board. The court upholded CBFC’s note, which prohibits everyone from watching the film in cinemas.

In his judiciary, Justice TV Thamilselvi said that the defense of the producers had no merit.

Coolie is the first Rajinikanth film that has been a ‘A’ certificate for over thirty years. (In 1989, Siva was the last person receiving the rating before that.) The producers claimed that a ‘A’ rating limited the family viewers, a vital segment for a mass entertainer.

Despite the certification and subsequent court procedures, Coolie performed very well at the box office, and in the first week, it was reported to have revenue on 400 Crore worldwide.
