Archie Manning says grandson Arch was unfairly ‘crowned’ before he played

Arch Manning tore up the high school football scene and raised expectations when he joined the Texas Longhorns program along with his famous last name.
As college football analysts debate what Manning could possibly bring to the Longhorns in his final year in college, his grandfather laments some of the hype surrounding the quarterback.

“I’m disappointed in a lot of people,” Archie Manning said. he told KXAN-TV her expectations for her grandchild entering university. “Everything. They crowned Arch before they even played. I didn’t think it was fair either. Yeah, it was a bit of a rough start, they played a great team, whatever.
“But the way Arch handled adversity last year and the way he played in the last eight or nine games of the season, I’ve never been more proud of anyone in my life.”

With just a few months left before the start of the college football season, excitement will be building again. Arch Manning is expected to lead the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff and separate himself from other potential NFL Draft quarterback prospects.
He had 3,163 passing yards and 26 TDs in 2025.

The Longhorns will begin their 2026 road trip on Sept. 5 against Texas State. Although it may seem like child’s play, their real test will be at home against Ohio State on September 12.
