People in North Coast Andhra Pradesh were shocked by tremors that lasted for a few seconds in the early hours of Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Confirming this, officials said the tremors were a result of the 3.7 magnitude earthquake recorded near G. Madugula in Alluri Sitarama Raju district. This could be the epicenter of the tremors in the North Coast Andhra Pradesh region.

“An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 was recorded at 04.19.41 on November 4, 2025, at a depth of 10 km. This is a small earthquake of low intensity. In earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and above, cracks usually start to appear on roads and buildings, but this largely depends on many factors. In the case of G.Madugula, it may not be that large. Therefore, the tremors were felt only in the surrounding areas such as Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam” S. Stella, Director (Amaravati), India Meteorological Department (IMD), said: Hindu.

He said road damage could occur at magnitude 5.3 and above, but this is not guaranteed and largely depends on factors such as distance from the epicenter and specific earthquake intensity. The 5.0-5.4 magnitude earthquake causes minor damage. While magnitude 6.0 earthquakes are devastating in a limited area, magnitude 7.0 earthquakes cause more serious damage over a larger area.

A faculty member and researcher from the Department of Earth Sciences at Andhra University said the extent of cracking of buildings or roads, sometimes even fatal incidents, depends on various factors such as the depth of the earthquake, local soil conditions and the quality of building structures.

R. Jagadeesh, owner of Eye Care in Maddilapalem and resident of Prime Palem, said, “I felt a few tremors on my bed. I woke up immediately and got up. I didn’t feel much.”

There were no reports of people coming out of their homes, but on Tuesday morning, people in areas like Madhurawada, Maharanipeta, Rushikonda, Kailasapuram, Visalakshinagar, Murali Nagar, Gajuwaka, Gopalapatnam, Simhachalam, Akkayyapalem and Beach Road faced the same experience.

Meanwhile, the tremors were also associated with thunder and lightning, causing panic among several residents. “For a moment, I had the impression that the tremors had caused an explosion in one of the major industrial units in the city,” said Mr. Srinivas, who lives on Beach Road.
