Maharashtra Cong VP Dies After Being Stabbed at Mosque in Akola

Akola: Maharashtra Congress vice-president Hidayatullah Patel, who was stabbed at a mosque in Akola district, died of injuries sustained during treatment on Wednesday morning, police said.
It was stated that the attacker was arrested.
Police said that Patel (66) was attacked with a sharp weapon by the accused due to an old enmity after performing prayers at a mosque in Mohala village of Akot taluka of the district around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
The former regional Congress president was injured in his neck and chest, causing heavy bleeding.
The man was admitted to a private hospital in Akot and admitted to the intensive care unit, where he died on Wednesday morning, a police official said.
Some videos showing Patel’s clothes soaked in blood as he left the mosque went viral on social media platforms.
Patel was at Jama Masjid in Mohala for afternoon prayers on Tuesday. As he was leaving the mosque after praying around 13.30, the attacker attacked his neck with sharp weapons. Residents later took him to the hospital, police said.
After the incident, the police came to the scene and collected evidence with the help of forensic experts.
Six police teams have been formed to nab the accused, identified as Ubed Khan Kalu Khan alias Razik Khan Patel (22). Additional Commissioner of Police B Chandrakant Reddy said that the person was arrested from Panaj village in Akot taluka around 8 pm on Tuesday.
Following the incident, security measures were increased in Mohala and Akot cities.
District Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak was investigating the situation.
Akot rural police registered a case in the incident, an official said.
