Maharashtra to Send 50 Leopards to Vantara Facility in Gujarat: Sources

Mumbai: Sources close to state forest minister Ganesh Naik said the Maharashtra government has decided to send 50 leopards to Reliance Foundation’s Vantara wildlife rescue and conservation center in Jamnagar in neighboring Gujarat. The forest department on Friday decided to strengthen conservation efforts for big cats while also addressing concerns about increasing human-leopard interactions in some parts of Maharashtra, they said.
According to sources, the deal was finalized after talks between Naik and the Vantara management.
More details on the timeline and methods for the transfer of leopards are expected to be finalized by the forest department in coordination with the management of the facility, they added.
Parts of Maharashtra witnessed a series of leopard attacks in November and December 2025.
