Maine Democrat claims ‘anti-trans’ sports campaign part of billionaire agenda

Democratic Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner suggested that opposition to transgender athletes in women’s sports is a result of an “out-of-state billionaire” agenda.

Platner told Slate last week, “Death, Sex and Moneypodcast where he was asked by host Anna Sale about the issue being an ongoing problem for Democratic politicians like Maine Governor Janet Mills. Platner admitted that this was a topic he could not take “seriously” because he considered it “propaganda”.

“This campaign is entirely funded by a billionaire who is not from Maine… the anti-trans campaign in Maine,” Platner said. “It’s funded by an out-of-state billionaire so we can have this discussion and not talk about raising his taxes. That’s why it exists.”

As an example, Platner recalled that girls were wrestling in high school in 2003 and “nobody cared” at the time.

“There was no mayhem. This is wrestling, too. This is almost like real violence,” Platner said, but added that he “won” all the fights he had with the girls.

“So your answer is that you are being manipulated by billionaires by asking me that, instead of asking me about rural health care access?” Sales asked.

“Literally,” Platner responded.

Mills responded, “See you in court.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, White House spokesman Kush Desai said: “We have a hard time accepting that Democrats have no logic or common sense in allowing biological males to play in women’s sports, but making up fake conspiracy theories doesn’t make them seem any less crazy.”

Fox News Digital has also reached out to Mills’ office for comment.
