Christmas dinner awkwardness: 37% of Brits struggle with festive conversation | UK | News

As Britons prepare for their traditional turkey and trimmings, many appear terrified at the prospect of festive table conversation.

While most of us enjoy Sunday roasts, a surprising 37% find the Christmas conversation a real struggle, according to new research from Uber Eats.

Nine out of ten Gen Z shoppers admit to being glued to their devices during meals; almost a quarter (23%) would rather chatter about social media and memes than millennial favorites like food (25%) and staying fit (24%). Meanwhile, according to the research, four in ten (41%) of Boomers prefer to spice up the table with holiday tales.

Broadcasting legend and conversationalist Nick Grimshaw has joined forces in a bid to revive the art of proper banter. Uber’s Food and Indian street food chain Mowgli will produce a collection of festive conversation cards designed to spark meaningful, unexpected and delightful conversations.

The cards include questions such as ‘is there a lesson you learned that has stuck with you’ and ‘what is a mealtime tradition you would like to start?’ With questions such as these, it aims to go beyond ordinary pleasantries to the more important issues of life.

They offer a seasonal twist on Mowgli’s core philosophy of uniting people through hearty Indian home cooking.

“I love when people open up and share their stories, and I firmly believe that the best conversations happen when people are relaxed, enjoying good food, and are present in the moment with their phones away,” Nick Grimshaw said. Enthusiasts will be able to dine with Nick at Mowgli’s in London on December 16; Just follow Uber Eats UK on Instagram for more details.

“I’m excited to be working with Uber Eats and Mowgli to bring dinner table discussions back to life, giving people the tools they need to turn off the screen and turn on the conversation,” commented Nick.

Mowgli’s offerings range from hearty Butter Main Chicken to vibrant street food like Fenugreek Fries; The mouth-watering creations are available on the high street or delivered exclusively via Uber Eats.

Saskia De Jongh of Uber Eats said: “Every day, millions of people enjoy great food through Uber Eats. With Mowgli, we wanted to offer something extra this Christmas: delicious food and a moment to truly reconnect with our loved ones. After all, like great food, great stories are meant to be shared.”
