Major fire at textile shop in Kozhikode city

A huge fire broke out in a textile store in Kozhikode city on Tuesday evening, February 17. There has been no loss of life so far. This is the second such incident in Jayalakshmi Silks where a similar incident took place on April 1, 2023 and losses worth trillions of rupees were reported.

It was reported that the fire broke out around 18.10. Fire and Rescue Services personnel immediately tried to extinguish the flames, which spread from the second floor to the third floor of the building on Kallai Road.

At least five teams were assigned to extinguish the fire. Staff told the media that they first noticed smoke coming from the distribution room on the first floor, after which all staff and shoppers were shifted to safer locations. Traffic was taken under control on the busy road. Vehicles parked on nearby Annie Hall Road were forcibly pushed elsewhere to make way for fire trucks.
