Major police update on death of Oasis fan who fell from height during Wembley Stadium gig | UK | News

The death of an Oasis fan after falling from a height at one of the band’s Wembley gigs was a “tragic accident”, a pre-inquest review heard. Landscape gardener Lee Claydon, 45, from Bournemouth, Dorset, died following the incident at the London stadium on August 2. Barnet Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday that police had completed their investigation into his death.

Metropolitan Police Detective Sergeant James Raffin said the toxicology report “caused no concern” because Mr Claydon had been drinking alcohol, but said this was “normal for everyone involved”. He confirmed suicide was being treated as a possible cause of death, with the Met passing its findings to Brent Council.

He told the hearing: “From a police perspective this is no longer a criminal prosecution. We do not suspect any third party involvement.”

“From everything we’ve seen, this was a tragic accident. From a police standpoint, I would say our investigation is complete.”

Detective Sergeant Raffin said Mr Claydon’s family had raised concerns about the “conditions of the night” and added that this would be escalated to Brent Council officials.

The opening of the inquest heard Mr Claydon was taken to a medical center in Wembley following the fall and was pronounced dead at 10.38pm.

Following the autopsy, the initial medical cause of death was determined to be “multiple bodily injuries.”

Senior Coroner Andrew Walker said the full inquest will take place on February 26, 2026.

He said: “It looks like we will be in a position to receive reports on conditions from London Borough of Brent next February and we will also have the police investigation report by then.”
