Major safety boost for UK seaside town – ‘makes a real difference’ | UK | News

A popular seaside town in England has been given a big boost ahead of summer. A new safety plan has been approved to benefit businesses in the town.
Morecambe BID has provided funding to develop the MoreNet community radio network. Radio coverage enables better communication, information sharing and rapid response to events between businesses and Pubwatch members. Its expansion was supported by Morecambe and Lunsedale MP Lizzi Collinge (Labour) and Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.
As reported by Lancashire TelegraphThe network will be improved and additional radios will be made available to businesses in Morecambe. Communication is vital to keep the town safe during the busy summer months, according to Tim Barbary, who leads the Safe Morecambe initiative.
He said: “Expanding the MoreNet network means businesses, Pubwatch and the police can share information quickly and effectively, helping us prevent problems and respond as a united community. It’s about creating a safer, more secure environment for businesses, residents and visitors.”
David Waddington, chief executive of Morecambe BID, added: “This is the kind of practical investment that makes a real difference to businesses on the ground. Expanding the MoreNet radio network strengthens communications, supports partnership working and gives businesses greater confidence that they are connected and supported.”
Improved radio coverage is expected to benefit pubs, bars and clubs in Morecambe this summer. Security will be able to stay in regular contact to eliminate any issues.
As well as expanding the radio scheme, the Safe Morecambe initiative will also see improved CCTV and improved lighting across the town. BID works closely to reduce crime and anti-social behavior in the area.
Ms Collinge said the initiatives were making a “daily difference” to the town. The radio system will help businesses stay connected and create a “safer city center for everyone.”
