Major update for UK seaside town rocked by demolition of theme park | UK | News

Fans of demolished theme parks are in for a thrilling experience this week after it was announced that a much-loved 100-year-old amusement park will be demolished. Now just a few days later, it has been revealed that a brand new “seasonal one” is getting ready to open. Located in Porthcawl, South Wales, Coney Beach Leisure Park has welcomed generations of thrill seekers before closing its doors for the final time in October 2025.
Coney Beach had become a landmark for the people of Porthcawl after it was opened to the public just after the First World War. Now, as the fairground prepares to be completely rebuilt, the excited screams of the crowds at the fairground will be replaced by the sounds of bulldozers and demolition work. Mixed-use redevelopment in the area is expected to include new residential development, retail facilities, a new primary school and a range of leisure and entertainment amenities.
But all is not lost for theme park fans, with Bridgend council announcing that Porthcawl is preparing to hold another fair this year as part of plans to regenerate the town’s waterfront area.
WalesOnline reports Fun Land Porthcawl, a new venue run by Studt’s Events, will open in Salt Lake on Eastern Promenade in a few weeks.
The council said the funfair would be installed in time for Easter and would remain in place throughout the summer season.
Studt’s Events said Fun Land will be open daily from Saturday, March 28 to Sunday, April 12, and then open on weekends and school holidays “throughout the season”.
Entry to the fair will be free and tours will be available with tokens that can be purchased. In addition to amusement park rides, Studt said there will also be free activity days and “massive” fireworks displays.
“As a family business with a long history in the amusement park and events industry, we have extensive experience in delivering both small community events and larger scale events,” said Henry Studt of Studt’s Events.
“We are really pleased to be bringing a family funfair to Porthcawl and look forward to playing a positive part in the town’s seasonal offer for residents and visitors.”
The council said Fun Land was designed to be “accessible and inclusive” and would be staffed by professional stewards. “Arrangements will be made to ensure ample on-site parking and a secure fence will help to carefully manage access and keep the fair clean and free of litter,” the council said in a statement. statement was added.
Fun Lane will share its Salt Lake space with contemporary circus NoFit State, which will also be in town April 11-19.
