Majorca holiday warning as major airport to be blocked by protesters | World | News

Hospitality employees plan to block Majorka’s airport with a movement that can harm thousands of British holidaymakers. More than 180,000 employees on the Balear Islands will strike in a few days in July with demonstrations including the blockade to Palma Airport. The protests will explode in the island group east of Spain on July 10 and prevent travelers from entering the departure and arrival areas on the first day of the action.
The UGT Union confirmed on Monday. In coordination with the Spanish union CCOO, demonstrations are expected to affect tourist accommodation, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in Majorka, Menorca, Ibiza and Formenter.
Protests were primarily motivated by calling for wage increases in the hospitality sector of the archipelago as the number of international visitors continued to increase every year.
Balear employers and unions fell to the percentage of wage increases in the next three years, Majorka Daily Bulletin The reports require an increase of 16%, but only 11% were offered.
According to CCOO, hospitality employees in Balearlar are less paid less than their colleagues in Spain, and the wage proposal is rejected on the grounds of a “big” bay between union demands and employer suggestions.
While the personnel also call for further clarity about the expected employee workloads and reduce the working week to 35 hours, the bosses want to take extra measures to combat absenteeism.
“We will not accept a single step in acquired rights.
“We came here to negotiate here to improve the conditions of hospitality workers, we do not worse them.”
Meanwhile, Javier Vich, President of the Majorka Hotel Business Federation, said that both sides could not reach an agreement, which means a “failure” before taking action.
