Mr Lownie told the Herald Sun: “He’s a pretty pathetic slacker and not very good at interacting with people.” Mr Lownie added that the King’s younger brother was likely lying low and playing a “waiting game” while police investigations continued.

“She’s doing what she always does: watching TV and sitting on the couch in her dressing gown,” he said. “But he’s not very interesting. He’d go horseback riding, he’d have shooting parties, he’d see his family. I think the really sad thing is that his family seems to have disowned him.”

“There is no obvious visit” [from daughters Eugenie and Beatrice] and he learned of the birth of his new grandchild through his ex-wife, not his daughter,” Mr Lownie continued.

“There are clearly very fractured relationships there.”

Andrew was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office over his links to the late sex pedophile Epstein, then released under investigation.

The police investigations relate to his time as Britain’s special representative for international trade and investment from 2001 to 2011, when he resigned amid controversy over his friendship with Epstein.

Due to the ongoing scandal, the former prince’s titles were stripped by the King.

He has denied any wrongdoing regarding his links to the late sex offender.

The statement came after director of public prosecutions Stephen Parkinson said investigations could take more than a year “due to the complexity and international dimension” of the case.

“I really don’t think anyone should expect the investigation to conclude early,” he told reporters earlier this month.
