Malaysia plans to follow Australia’s under-16s social media ban
Over the weekend, Fahmi did not list the platforms that the Malaysian government wants to restrict to those under 16.
The Australian government has ordered major social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram, to remove accounts of minors by December 10.

It will be the social media company’s responsibility to ensure that children under the age of 16 do not register or continue to use their platform. “Systemic” violations of a platform can result in fines of up to $49.5 million.
“I really, honestly think we’ve saved a generation,” Australian Communications Minister Anika Wells said in Sunday’s byline, adding that “it’s going to look really messy over the next few months as all major reforms are.”
