Mamdani confronted on ‘The View’ over appointee who called homeownership ‘weapon of White supremacy’

Mayor of New York Zohran Mamdani During “The View” on Tuesday, he confronted past statements from Cea Weaver, the Mayor’s appointee as director of the Office of Tenant Protection, and other appointees.
“Some appointments have come under fire for past social media posts, which often happens when new administrations come in,” said Alyssa Farah Griffin, one of the show’s hosts. “Your new chief capital officer She made several now-deleted comments disparaging liberal White women. Your tenant attorney tweeted that home ownership is a weapon of White supremacy and called for the election of more communists, among other posts. What message do you think this sends to New Yorkers and how would you turn it down?”
Mamdani said New Yorkers will find his views in his own words.

Mamdani then gave a statement about what the Tenants Protection Office has done so far.
“The Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants is the executive director we hired 20 days ago. In those 20 days, we settled with a landlord who had more violations than I can count and secured $30 million in guaranteed repairs for thousands of those violations, and sometimes when a politician tells you that, it sounds abstract. It sounds like stats and statistics that you’ll never feel or know,” he said.
Weaver, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, left viral for multiple expressions shared on social media.

A screenshot of a post dated August 21, 2019, shows Weaver writing, “Private property, including homeownership in particular, is a weapon of white supremacy disguised as a ‘wealth creation’ public policy.”
In a December 18, 2017 post, Weaver also called for “more communists to be elected.”
In a DSA video that went viral in March 2021, Weaver said: “I think the truth is that for centuries we have treated property as an individualized good, not a collective good.”

“Moving to treating this as a collective good towards a shared model of equality will require us to think differently about this issue,” he continued.
During her interview on “The View,” Mamdani also said she supports abolish ICE.
