Man, 31, dies after he’s shot in head outside Queens laundromat

A man died after being shot in the head outside a Queens laundromat Saturday morning, police said.
St. Dominick Lowery, 31, of nearby St. Albans, was shot around 8:37 a.m. outside the Wash & Fold Super Laundry at the Conduit Plaza shopping center near Springfield Blvd. and 144th Street. laurelton.
EMS rushed him there Jamaica Hospital where the situation is critical. According to police, Lowery was on life support for several hours before he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made and police have not released information on a possible suspect.
“I heard a bang, came to the door and saw a man in green camouflage running,” said a man named Mohammad, who worked at a nearby Edible Arrangements store on Saturday, after the shooting.
“I thought this was a safe space, but this is making me have second thoughts,” he added.
Another man named Asim said it was traumatic to witness the incident.
“I heard the gunshot and thought I was imagining it, planes usually fly overhead so I thought the planes were malfunctioning,” he said. “I saw the victim’s mother crying and screaming and it felt like it was really happening.
“It was scary, very scary, and I had tears in my eyes when I saw the mother and the young man on the ground,” he said. “I wanted to go home because it made me so sad.”
Saturday evening, laundry The store, which was closed until 4 p.m. due to a police investigation, was reopened for business, according to an employee there. He said the shooting occurred outside in the parking lot and, to his knowledge, it was not connected to the laundromat. He said the people involved were not customers and did not go inside.
People doing their laundry there were stunned by the shooting in the usually safe area. Some had only learned about it after seeing it on the news on the local television.
One man said that as he was loading his clothes into one of the machines, he suddenly realized he was in the laundromat they were talking about and was shocked.
“I just saw this on TV and I was confused,” he said. “Honestly, this could happen anywhere.”
