Man and woman ‘known to each other’ found dead 130 miles apart as police launch probe

Police launched an investigation into the death of a woman and a man who knew each other, 130 kilometers away.
Emergency services were called to a property on Shirburn Road in Torquay just before 4pm on Saturday after concerns were raised about a woman at the address. Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman, in her 70s, was found dead and her death is being treated as unexplained.
Officers were also alerted by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary that a man in his 40s known to the woman was also found dead at a property in Hythe during a police visit. Police said his death is not believed to be suspicious.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “This is a very sad incident and we are supporting the relatives of those killed. We continue to work with our colleagues in Hampshire as we investigate this matter.”
“Officers are investigating to establish exactly what happened and cordons have been established at both addresses to allow for a full investigation.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we would encourage anyone with any concerns to speak to officers,” Mr Pebworth said.
It is believed that the man and the woman know each other. Police said his relatives had been notified and he was being supported by officers.
Devon and Cornwall Police are conducting an investigation to establish the circumstances of both deaths and officers are currently at both properties.
They asked anyone with information to call 101 or contact them online.
