Man arrested after baby killed in suspected dog attack in Yorkshire | Yorkshire

A 45-year-old man has been arrested after a three-month-old girl died in a suspected dog attack.
Cleveland police said they were called to a home in the Dormanstown area of Redcar shortly after 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon following a report of concerns for the child’s welfare. Police said the baby is believed to have died as a result of a bite from the dog.
The 31-year-old woman was treated at the hospital for an arm injury resulting from a dog bite. Armed police destroyed a dog that strayed into the street. A second piece, recovered by police, has since been destroyed.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of taking responsibility for a dog that went dangerously out of control and caused fatal injuries. After his interrogation, he was released on conditional bail.
A police spokesman said the dogs were assessed by a specialist officer and were not considered a prohibited dog breed. neighbors told Teesside Live that the dogs were pocket bully type dogs, possibly mixed breeds. One local resident said the dog was “running up and down the street” after the attack.
Chief Supt Rachel Stockdale, local chief constable for Cleveland Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family following this tragic and distressing incident.
“I would like to take this opportunity to request that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. “There will continue to be a visible police presence on the property as well as a crime scene while the investigation continues.
“I would urge anyone with concerns to please speak to an officer. We would also urge anyone with information or anyone with mobile phone or doorbell and dashcam footage to get in touch.”
A spokesman for the North East ambulance service said three ambulance crews, a clinical team leader and a duty officer were dispatched to the incident.
