Man arrested after woman, 95, tied up during attempted robbery in Salford | Salford

An 80-year-old man was arrested after a 95-year-old woman was tied up and threatened during an attempted robbery in Salford after asking about the day of her bin collection, police said.

It is understood an attacker entered the woman’s property in Little Hulton, Salford, on Tuesday, tied her hands and demanded money and her purse.

She became disturbed when another woman, who knew the victim, arrived at the property and confronted the robber, who fled the scene.

Greater Manchester police (GMP) said officers attended an address on Manchester Road, Worsley, on Wednesday and arrested a man on suspicion of attempted robbery and false imprisonment.

Police said he was being held for questioning.

No injuries were reported and officers are providing support to the victim.

GMP had previously said a man offered to clean the victim’s windows but detectives now believe the man was asking about bin collection day.

DI Paul Davies, of GMP’s Salford area, said on Wednesday: “When we received this report yesterday we were shocked by the nature of it and immediately used all available resources as part of our investigation.

“I am glad that someone has been arrested in connection with this incident and that investigations are continuing.

“I ask the community not to speculate in order to allow the criminal justice process to proceed properly.

“I would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and contacted us; your help is truly appreciated and helps us provide the best possible service.”
