Man arrested in Derby after car hits multiple pedestrians, with some seriously injured | UK news

A man has been arrested after a car hit and injured pedestrians in Derby on Saturday.
Derbyshire police said many people were injured, some seriously, in the incident in the city centre.
Police said the car believed to be involved in the incident was stopped at Friar Gate at around 9.30pm.
The driver, aged in his 30s, was arrested and is in police custody.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw a black Suzuki Swift in Derby at the time to get in touch.
The force’s statement said: “Whilst we know this will be concerning, we want to reassure people that we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.”
Part of the Friar’s Gate is expected to be closed for a period of time and citizens are asked to avoid the area.
