Man breaks down after friend admits he’s not invited anywhere because he’s “poor”

A TikTok creator’s emotional admission that she was labeled “poor” by a close friend and therefore silently excluded from social events has gone viral.

In a video dated February 12, 2026, Andrey Borul (@baba_vs_world) said through tears that a friend of his had joked that no one wanted to invite him and his wife out because of their financial situation.

Borul, who said he was mired in medical debt after nearly dying from an infection, admitted that the comment hit hard, not because it was wrong but because it revealed how isolating financial hardship can be.

Borul says he and his wife went to a party and a close friend described the couple as “poor.”

His friend laughed and added that no one wanted to invite Borul and his wife to social events due to their financial situation. “I was surprised,” Borul said of the trade.

The video continues with Borul admitting that his close friend was right. like that poor.

“I’m trying to recover right now by working almost 20 hours a day,” he said of his medical debt. “Of course we need to tighten our belts”

Therefore, he cannot afford a vacation, but his family manages to have fun.

“I brought a ton of snow and left it in our backyard for our kids to enjoy,” Borul said. “Because it’s true, we can’t afford to go into the mountains and spend hundreds of dollars on a trip.”

“Being poor sucks. I feel so alone. We haven’t been invited anywhere for three months,” she says in tears. “Invite us to go places.”

“My wife and I are social butterflies and love having friends around us, but being left out of it really upsets us,” Borul explained in an email to the Daily Dot.

He said their family was deeply touched by the compassion shown in response to his video.

“The morning after the clip went super viral, I showed my wife that it had been viewed millions of times,” he wrote. “He couldn’t believe it and the next week we were the talk of the community, even reaching out to our pastor to make sure we were doing okay.”

Commentators say “rejection is protection”

The video received more than 1 million views and more than 20,000 comments. Many empathized with the creator and contributed their own stories of poverty.

However, the most liked comments went further, warning Borul that the person who called him “poor” in the video was not his real friend.

“Belittling your friends when they have less money says a lot about who they are,” another Reddit user said added.

“You are THE MAN. Don’t let these types of people make you feel any way,” another said. Comment on TikTok. “Run from them. You’re the kind of man I’d be honored to call my friend.”

The true cost of medical debt

According to KFF, in 2022, four in ten adults reported having debt due to medical or dental bills, including debt owed to credit cards, collection agencies, family and friends, banks and other lenders to pay for health care expenses.

Pipe started GoFundMe to help offset medical debt. As of March 2, the crowdsourcing campaign had raised over $25,000.

Medical debt is not entirely the patient’s fault; it is often the result of systemic problems in health care and government systems.

“Medical debt is the product of decades of dysfunctional health care policy, a market-driven insurance system, and a series of safety net programs with notable gaps,” says Stephen Nuñez. Roosevelt Institute. “The costs could be huge.”
