Man convicted for threatening to bring ‘sniper rifle’ to Austin Pride Parade in 2023
AUSTIN (KXAN) -Travis District Prosecutor’s Office, in a press release in the afternoon of Thursday, announced that a 57-year-old man was sentenced to harm to Austin ISD Board of Directors for harming the 2023 Austin Pride Ceremony.
Michael Boone was found guilty of terrorist threat to cause serious physical injury, a B -class misdemeanor, and was sentenced. The judge also found that the threat constitutes a hate crime and raised the accusation to the A Class A misdemeanor.
On August 11, 2023, Boone wrote on AISD’s “Let’s Talk” application “I will prepare my sniper rifle and painful people to promote it.
The next day was the 2023 Austin Pride Parade and Festival.

Austin ISD Police Department was able to withdraw Boone’s IP address from the message. The address was associated with Boone, Georgia, Richmond Hills. FBI agents helped the AISD police in the arrest of “only hours” before the parade ceremony started.
José Garza, Travis County, said, “Travis District Regional Prosecutor’s Office does not tolerate hate actions in our community, does not take hate crimes seriously and determined to hold these crimes responsible for responsible.” “Our office is grateful for our other law enforcement partners who participate in the AISD Police Department and the suspect quickly identifying and ultimately helping the investigation that keeps our community safe.”
According to release, Boone will provide two -year probation services and complete 75 hours of community service, mental health treatment and consultancy. He will also have to write an apology letter and make more contact with AISD.
