A heavily armed 23-year-old man, who told his family he wanted to commit an act that would put him “in the news,” allegedly drove across the country and crashed into a Nevada energy facility on Thursday. This incident is what authorities are calling a possible act of terrorism.
Dawson Maloney, 23, of Albany, New York, who was wearing soft body armor and holding a shotgun, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference Friday.
Officials said Maloney, who was recently reported missing in New York, deliberately crashed into a rental car through a secure gate guarding the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power facility near Boulder City around 10 a.m. local time on Thursday.
In the video, the car with New York license plate is seen rapidly approaching the door and breaking the surrounding fences.

According to McMahill, Maloney’s car was stopped by large, industrial cable reels, apparently leading to his subsequent suicide. He added that there was no threat to the public.
Authorities said he spoke to his family before the attack and made multiple references to harming himself and committing an act that would put him “in the news.”
According to McMahill, Maloney referred to himself as a “dead terrorist son” in a message to his mother and said he felt he “had an obligation to carry out his act.”
