Man guilty of murdering woman and three children in Bradford arson attack | UK news

A man who killed a woman and her three children aged nine, five and 22 months and set fire to the house has been found guilty of murder.

The jury heard that Sharaz Ali, 40, was fueled by drugs and alcohol out of jealousy when he set fire to the house in Bradford at 2am on August 21 last year.

The prosecution said he planned to “take revenge” after his former partner Antonia Gawith ended an “abusive” seven-year relationship.

Gawith was staying at the home of his sister, Bryonie Gawith. 29-year-old Bryonie and her children Denisty Birtle (9), Oscar Birtle (5) and 22-month-old Aubree Birtle died in the fire.

One of his accomplices, Calum Sunderland, 26, was cleared of murder but convicted of four counts of manslaughter for his role in breaking into the family home where Antonia was staying. He was also cleared of attempted murder and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to Antonia.

Both men had denied murder.
