A 30-year-old man was arrested by Kukatpally police for stealing gold rings from leading jewelery stores by replacing them with imitation pieces. The accused, identified as Merugu Sagar of Ameenpur in Sangareddy, was arrested following investigation into reported thefts at CMR and Malabar Gold malls earlier this year.

Police said the crimes were reported on January 23 and February 2 after the accused posed as a customer and asked to be shown a gold ring. While sales staff were distracted, he allegedly replaced his original rings with rolled gold imitations, which he kept in his shirt pocket, before leaving stores unnoticed. Cases were registered at Kukatpally police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, while a related case was also registered at Punjagutta police station regarding a similar offence.
