Man in serious condition after being shot by police in London | London

It was learned that the condition of a man who was shot by police in a house in London on Friday afternoon was “life-threatening”.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation into the actions of Met police officers during the incident at a property in Walthamstow, north-east London.
A Met spokesman said police attended the property in Stow Crescent at around 10am on Friday morning after receiving reports a man inside was “carrying a firearm and threatening to kill”.
Police officers and negotiators then spent nearly four hours at the scene.
“Around 2pm, officers had reason to force entry onto the property and subsequently discharged their weapons,” the spokesman said. “The circumstances of the incident will form part of the investigation.”
The man was treated at the scene by police paramedics and the London ambulance service before he was taken to hospital with a life-threatening condition.
Cordons have been set up around the facility and the public is asked to stay away from the area.
“The incident has been brought under control and there is no wider threat to the public,” the spokesman said.
The matter was referred to the Professional Standards Directorate, which made a mandatory referral to the IOPC.
An IOPC spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have launched an independent investigation into the actions of the Met police during the incident at an address in Walthamstow, east London, where we understand a man was shot by police this afternoon and taken to hospital.
“After being notified by the Met police, we launched an independent investigation at 4.13pm this afternoon and sent investigators to the scene and post-incident procedure to begin collecting evidence.
“Our investigation is still in its early stages.”
