Death Toll In Bangladesh Garment Factory Fire Rises To 16 | World News

The death toll in a fire at a garment factory in Bangladesh has risen to 16, fire officials said on Tuesday.
“We have found 16 bodies so far. Most of them have been recovered,” Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Director of Fire Brigade (Operation and Maintenance), told reporters.
The fire broke out in a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Dhaka’s Rupnagar on Tuesday. 12 fire crews worked to extinguish the fire and control the fire in the clothing department.

“We use unmanned technology, including drones, in chemical division fire control and rescue operations,” he added.
“Most of the people died due to toxic gas poisoning. DNA tests will be conducted to identify the bodies,” Chowdhury said.
Ready-made garments are Bangladesh’s main export sector and there is a large employment in the sector.
The death toll in a fire that broke out in a textile factory previously reached nine. Many people were also burned in the incident.
Fire Director Lieutenant Colonel (Operations and Maintenance) Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said nine bodies were recovered from the second floor of the burning garment factory.
“12 units of the fire department are working to control the fire,” he told reporters, without giving further details.

Upon notice, 7 firefighters arrived at the scene and started working to control the fire. Further details about the cause of the fire and the identities of the victims were not immediately known, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
